Job Summary
Avenue Healthcare is seeking an experienced and results-driven Pharmacy Manager to lead pharmacy operations, ensure safe medication practices, oversee inventory management, and drive excellence in patient-centered pharmaceutical care across its healthcare facilities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Pharmacy Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Clerks, and Pharmacy Assistants.
- Manage staff schedules, leave plans, overtime, and absenteeism in line with HR policies.
- Coordinate staff orientation, training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Identify training needs and facilitate professional development opportunities.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of pharmacy personnel.
- Foster staff engagement, motivation, recognition, and retention.
2. Pharmacy Operations Management
- Lead outpatient, inpatient, and special clinic pharmacy units.
- Implement safe medication-use processes and maintain pharmacy operational policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and pharmacy manuals.
- Monitor service turnaround times and implement improvements where necessary.
- Coordinate medication recalls, drug returns, and treatment sheet reviews.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to enhance patient care.
3. Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Promote adherence to corporate governance policies.
- Prevent, detect, and report fraud or unethical practices.
- Ensure implementation of audit recommendations and compliance requirements.
4. Financial & Inventory Management
- Oversee daily and monthly stock counts across pharmacy units and stores.
- Maintain optimal stock levels while preventing stock-outs.
- Monitor inventory variances, expiries, and stock losses.
- Prepare monthly pharmacy performance reports and KPI reviews.
- Monitor product margins and support initiatives that improve financial performance.
5. Quality Assurance & Patient Safety
- Supervise preparation of high-alert medications and compounded products.
- Ensure proper medication storage, temperature monitoring, and hazardous material handling.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Monitor medication-use processes to minimize medication errors.
- Lead incident reporting, corrective actions, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with COHSASA standards and other healthcare quality requirements.
6. Patient Satisfaction & Confidentiality
- Drive patient satisfaction through quality pharmaceutical care and effective communication.
- Collect and act on patient feedback to improve service delivery.
- Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Educational Qualifications, Experience, & Skills Required
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm).
- Valid Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) Practice License.
- Updated Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
- Leadership and Management Certificate or Degree.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Pharmacy Management.
- Experience with COHSASA or other healthcare accreditation standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
