About the Role

The Internal Engagement and Communications Manager is responsible for all Internal communications and for driving employee engagement through effective communication anchored on the business strategy.

Market Complexity

East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), one of the largest companies in East Africa, has extensive operations in Kenya including Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) which produces, markets and sells alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in Kenya, and East African Maltings Limited (EAML) which sources raw materials for EABL’s business.  EABL has subsidiaries in Uganda and Tanzania, as well as export operations in other markets in the region, and is a subsidiary of Diageo plc, the global alcoholic drinks company.

EABL is the largest business unit in Diageo Africa operating two spirits distilleries at Nairobi and Kampala, six breweries at Nairobi, Kisumu, Kampala, Moshi, Dar es Salaam and Mwanza and one malting plant in Nairobi – Industrial area.

Purpose of Role and Leadership Responsibilities

The Internal Engagement and Communications Manager is responsible for driving engagement through effective communication in partnership with the Corporate Relations Director, Head of Communications, Human Resource, and members of Senior Leadership team to drive business strategy and create impact.

This role holder does not have direct reports however they work in partnership with PR Agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of the employee communications strategy and plan that directly supports the business strategy, vision and values and uses a range of appropriate tools and is measurable
  • Partner with the Head of Communications in driving communication initiatives in line with plan e.g. weekly newsletter, leadership communications, project communications
  • Executing plans for the design, writing and production of external communications materials, including brochures, memos, newsletters, etc.  
  • Ensure optimal partnership with the PR agencies
  • Monitoring communication activities in order to realize the desired uniform and integral positioning of the company
  • Communication excellence through the development and innovation of ways to engage business internal 
  • Manage a robust and integrated employee communications forum to facilitate sharing of best practice, cross-functional working and management of timely corporate and brand communication(s)
  • Ensure message consistency and adoption of communication principles through building relationships with all key functions and audiences and coaching of Senior Leadership Team and Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with HR to drive employee engagement.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism or PR.
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence multiple stakeholders through compelling communication
  • Proven track record of managing communication’s issues in a sensitive / controversial environment.
  • Proven track record in communications and communication strategy development.
  • Build relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners and stakeholders
  • Work flexibly and respond with agility to unforeseen challenges / opportunities at short notice
